DEM visualization of potential changes in sea level by 2100 in Orleans and surrounding counties, utilizing data from the IPCC AR6 report. Data relies on expected range for the global change in sea level– sea level changes are expected to be more concentrated in the Gulf of Mexico, particularly around the Louisiana Coast.

Outcome: Even in the best case scenario much of the area becomes inundated (see areas marked in red). By “worst case” scenario nearly no part along the coast is unaffected, making much of the area uninhabitable. Mass-scale displacement and destruction of coastal wetlands is expected.

    Sea level rise in the Atlantic Gulf is expected to, Florida may disappear. Lack of coral reef 🪸

      Very true. The Gulf of Mexico, particularly along the US coast, is expected to be some of the most severely impacted by sea level rise. Much of Florida is lowland wetlands and especially with continued development removing natural flood barriers they’re expected to be mostly submerged.
